Colombian striker commits future to Serie A side.
The 22-year-old has really caught the eye with his displays in Serie A, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances for the club last season, leading to speculation linking him with a move away, with Premier League giants Arsenal supposedly keen on securing his services.
The Gunners had been linked with a whole host of strikers over the summer, and Muriel seemed like another good candidate to provide some depth upfront for Arsene Wenger, though a move never materialised, and he now looks set to remain with the Italian side for the foreseeable future.
Muriel looks to have started this season in fine form as well, scoring four goals in three appearances, and has been rewarded for his work with a new deal, which the club hope will see him continue his development.
Speaking about Muriel’s new deal, Udinese sports director Cristiano Giaretta said: “We have extended Muriel’s contract to secure the player, to reward him and to encourage him to continue on this path.”
Another young player at Udinese attracting serious interest is 19-year-old Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski, who is reportedly a top target for Manchester City this January.
