Swansea winger Pablo Hernandez is set to miss out on the club’s first foray into the Europa League against his former employers.

The 28-year-old has been ruled out of the side that travelled to Spain with a suspected thigh strain and he is also likely to miss out on the weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace too.

However, new striker Wilfried Bony is believed to be close to full fitness and has been included in the squad to face the Spanish giants. He sustained a rib injury during Monday’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium.

Hernandez had previously spent eight years with Valencia before leaving to become Swansea’s then record signing last summer.

Having played in the Europa League and Champions League for the Spanish club, he had hoped his friends and family would have the chance to see him in action there for the Swans.

Speaking before he sustained his hamstring injury, Hernandez said: “Valencia are a big team, and the [other Europa League group] matches against Kuban and St Gallen will be very difficult too.

“But if we can finish first and Valencia second then that would be perfect for me.
