Spanish playmaker was summer target for French giants.
PSG manager Laurent Blanc has hinted that unsettled Chelsea star Juan Mata was a target for the club over the summer, and could be one again in the future, according to the Daily Express.
The former France and Bordeaux manager was appointed the head coach of the Ligue 1 champions this summer, and continued the club’s recent habit of spending big on high-profile players, bringing in Edinson Cavani from Napoli for £55m.
He also revealed that the club tried late on to hijack Mesut Ozil’s move from Real Madrid to Arsenal, though the German international opted for a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Mata is a similar style of player, and was supposedly also on Blanc’s radar, and with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho seemingly not including him in his first-team plans this season, the 25-year-old could be a target for many clubs again when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Tottenham have been linked with the Spaniard, though Chelsea are likely to prefer to sell him abroad than to a Premier League rival, and PSG are one of few clubs who could afford a player of his calibre.
Despite his current situation at Stamford Bridge, Mata has been one of the club’s best players since signing from Valencia two years ago, scoring 32 goals from midfield in 121 appearances.
