New Liverpool striker Iago Aspas is hoping to improve his form in front of goal for his new club, after a difficult start to his career at Anfield, he told the club’s official site.

The 26-year-old Spaniard joined this summer from Celta Vigo, after impressing Brendan Rodgers with 12 goals for the La Liga relegation strugglers last term.

However, his inexperience at the top level is arguably showing so far after seemingly struggling to adapt to the pace of the Premier League and failing to find the back of the net so far for his new employers.

Aspas admits he has never gone this long without a goal, though he also feels there is more to his overall game than just playing as an out-and-out striker, which may be more suited to the in-form Daniel Sturridge or star man Luis Suarez when he returns to action from suspension.

Although Liverpool have started the season well, and currently sit top of the Premier League table, Aspas is hoping his own individual form will soon pick up as well.

“Over the last four or five seasons I haven’t gone as many games as this without a goal,” he said.

“I’ve never been an out-and-out goalscorer but it’s true that over the last three seasons I have scored quite a number of goals.

“I suppose on a personal level I’m not entirely happy as I would want to be because I still feel I can do better.”

Liverpool’s fine form has seen them talked up as title challengers, though the striker is remaining focused on the club’s minimum target of qualifying for the Champions League.

“What I have done is aimed at playing as many games as possible and to try and help the team to get into the top four, which I think is the most important thing for us,” he added.

“It’s all about focusing on the group as a whole in order to qualify for the Champions League.”
