Iniesta’s father plays down exit speculation.
The father of Barcelona star Andres Iniesta has played down suggestions that his son could be set for a shock exit from the Nou Camp, according to Sky Sports.
The 29-year-old has been at Barcelona for his entire career and has become widely regarded as one of the finest players of his generation after his immense success both for club and country, having won six La Liga titles and three Champions League titles with Barcelona, and two European Championships and the World Cup with the Spanish national side.
His superb technique and passing ability have seen him become an embodiment of the club’s footballing philosophy, and his father believes he will look to extend his stay with the club.
Reports suggested that Iniesta had rejected a new contract offer from the Catalan giants, though it now seems that talks are ongoing and yet to reach a definite conclusion, though he is being tipped to commit his future to the club at the end of negotiations.
“Anyone who knows Andres, who has spent 18 years at Barcelona, shouldn’t doubt his words,” his father, Jose Antonio, said.
“Andres is still vital to Barcelona’s style of play.”
News of his contract talks stalling had been said to put Premier League giants Manchester United and Manchester City on alert, and it is likely that the Spaniard would have a long queue of clubs from all around Europe looking to snap him up if he became available.
