Experienced Azzurri star could quit Juve as early as January.
Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea have both been put on alert by the news that veteran Juventus midfield player Andrea Pirlo could be set to leave the Serie A champions, according to exclusive reports in the Daily Mail.
The coveted Italy international is already in the final year of his current contract with the ‘Old Lady of Italian Football’, with Pirlo’s deal set to run out on June 30 2014.
However, it is understood that rather than offering the 34-year-old a contract extension beyond the end of next summer, Juve head coach Antonio Conte would rather wait and see how Pirlo performs for the Italian giants in the first half of this season, before then making a final decision about the playmaker’s future in Turin when the transfer window finally reopens for business at the start of January.
And this latest development will be sure to have not gone unnoticed by the likes of Premier League champions United, as well as Chelsea, who are both known to be on the look-out at present for a new ball-playing central midfield player.
In fact, the west London club even tried to lure Pirlo to Stamford Bridge when head coach Carlo Ancelotti was in charge of the Blues, only for the midfielder to instead opt to remain with AC Milan, who he was playing with at the time.
