United and Bayern to compete for Dortmund star.Manchester United and Bayern Munich could be set to compete for the signing of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic this January, according to Info-Ticker.
The Serbian international has been one of the most impressive defenders in the Bundesliga for the last few years, forming a key part of the Dortmund side that won the title two years in a row and reached last season’s Champions League final.
United manager David Moyes will be concerned with his side’s defending in their humiliating 4-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City at the weekend, and could see Subotic as an ideal addition to pursue when the transfer window rep-opens in January, having missed out on the likes of Ezequiel Garay during the summer.
The 24-year-old would likely cost around £21m, but United could edge out Bayern for his signature as Dortmud will be loathe to sell another of their best players to their rivals, having lost star youngster Mario Goetze to Pep Guardiola’s side this season.
Subotic’s current contract expires in 2016, but it is thought that he could be tempted to move on as soon as January to take on a new challenge after attracting so much interest.
