Italians could offer player plus cash for Valencia defender.
Napoli are hoping to beat the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City to the signing of Valencia defender Adil Rami, with Forza Italian Football reporting that they may offer Federico Fernandez in exchange for the unsettled Frenchman.
Rami is attracting strong attention from a number of top clubs again after becoming involved in a row with Valencia manager Miroslav Dukic, as he seems increasingly likely to leave the Mestalla Stadium.
Former Valencia manager Rafael Benitez, now of Napoli, is looking to Rami to strengthen his defence, and may be willing to part with Fernandez to help push a deal through, as the Argentine is mostly a backup player for his side.
However, the 24-year-old is highly rated back in Spain, where he has previously spent a loan spell with Getafe. He also has 18 caps for Argentina and will be hoping to play regularly ahead of next summer’s World Cup to put himself in with a better chance of making the squad.
Napoli are confident a swap deal could take place, which would be a blow for Arsenal and City as they look to tighten up defensively in the January transfer window.
Benitez’s side have also been linked with Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel in recent times as they look for additions at the back.
