Mourinho eyeing raid on old club in January.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho could look to his old club Real Madrid in his bid to strengthen upfront this January, with a move for French striker Karim Benzema, according to Sports Direct News.
There has been much speculation about the former Lyon man’s future at the Bernabeu in recent months, with Arsenal thought to be the main team monitoring his situation for much of the summer.
It is thought that Real Madrid could be willing to part company with the 25-year-old as they seek to replace him with Liverpool star Luis Suarez, as he has not been at his best for the last year or so for both club and country.
Once rated as one of the best young players in the world, Benzema has shone at Real Madrid, and Mourinho may feel a reunion with the striker could be ideal for both of them and their respective problems at this moment in time.
Chelsea are well short of upfront due to the poor form of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and summer signing Samuel Eto’o, while exciting young prospect Romelu Lukaku is out on loan with Everton.
Benzema could be next on Mourinho’s list after the Portuguese tactician missed out on Wayne Rooney during the summer.
