St James’ Park side given hope in pursuit of Icelandic international.
Newcastle United have been given the all clear to up their advances for highly rated Heerenveen forward Alfred Finnbogason according to Sports Direct News.
The St James’ Park side reportedly made a move to sign the Icelandic international on a loan basis towards the end of the summer transfer window but such a move proved unsuccessful, now the 24 year old has made it abundantly clear he wants to make the move to join the Magpies.
The in-form striker spoke of Newcastle United’s interest in a recent interview, stating;
“I heard they [Newcastle] made a loan bid for me at the end of the transfer window but it was not an option for me to go on loan.
“If they make another offer I will consider it.”
Alan Pardew’s side have struggled for goals since losing Demba Ba to Chelsea in January and have managed just five goals in five games thus far this term.
Whilst it’s notoriously difficult to assess whether a big goal tally in the relatively average Dutch top tier would lead to a healthy total in the Premier League Finnbogason has shown he has a great deal of potential since moving to Heerenveen last August, scoring 40 goals in just 41 appearances.
