Arsenal are plotting a move for another Real Madrid player this January as they seek to follow up the signing of Mesut Ozil with his German international team-mate Sami Khedira, according to Sports Direct News.

The Gunners had been linked with a number of other Real Madrid stars this summer, having also pursued the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria before eventually landing Ozil for a club-record £42.4m on transfer deadline day.

With more funds now available to manager Arsene Wenger, a big-money move for Khedira could be next, as the Frenchman seeks to shore up a midfield still missing the influence of Alex Song, who was sold to Barcelona last summer.

Mathieu Flamini has been brought in on a free this season, though Wenger is supposedly keen on signing Khedira as well as a more long-term option for the club.

Khedira was one of several players said to be disappointed with Ozil’s exit from Real, and he could now be tempted to follow his international team-mate out of the Bernabeu exit door.

The 26-year-old has also attracted interest from Manchester United in recent times, while Arsenal will also consider Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender as an option in midfield.
