Real Madrid could be about to make a surprise move for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski this January, according to reports in Spanish publication AS.

The Polish international is widely expected to seal a move to Dortmund’s rivals Bayern Munich next summer when his contract expires, though several top clubs are continuing to show a strong interest in signing the prolific forward.

Lewandowski has been one of the best strikers in Europe over the last couple of years, scoring 84 goals in 148 appearances for Dortmund, helping them to two Bundesliga title victories and a place in last season’s Champions League final.

The 25-year-old famously scored all four goals in a 4-1 victory over Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League semi-finals, and has now emerged as a target for Los Blancos as they seek a new addition upfront when the transfer window re-opens in the middle of the season.

Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly keen on bringing in a replacement for the misfiring Karim Benzema, and may also approach Liverpool for their star front-man Luis Suarez.

It is unclear if Lewandowski has made up his mind on a move to Bayern yet, and could still be tempted to make the switch to the Bernabeu.
