Real Madrid Plan Move For Coveted South American Striker

Los Blancos hope to lure in-form attacker to the Spanish capital next year.

Liga giants Real Madrid are interested in signing in-demand FC Porto front man Jackson Martinez at the end of this season, according to reports in Spanish sports daily Marca.

The prolific Colombia international has been attracting the attentions of a whole host of big-name clubs throughout the Continent ever since the 27-year-old first moved to the Dragao from Jaguares de Chiapas in July 2012 for just $11 million, with both Premier League champions Manchester United and Serie A high-flyers Napoli having tried to buy Martinez during the recent summer transfer window.

However, the Portuguese champions turned down both of those approaches, with president Pinto da Costa instead deciding to keep hold of his star man, at least for one more campaign.

And the red-hot striker has vindicated da Costa’s decision by carrying on with his eye-catching form in front of goal for Porto this season, with Martinez having so far managed to net an impressive 10 goals in total in only 10 matches in all competitions for his club.

Meanwhile, in the previous campaign the forward was also in sensational goalscoring form, netting 34 strikes in 43 matches, including 26 goals in just 30 league outings for Porto.

All of which has led to los Blancos deciding to now step up their pursuit of the attacker, whose current contract with Porto runs until June 2016, with an eye to bringing the Colombian to the Santiago Bernabeu next summer.
