Barcelona Keen On Juventus Centre-Back To Strengthen Struggling Defence

Barca eye move for rock-solid Juve defender.

Barcelona could be set to turn their attentions to Juventus centre-back Giorgio Chiellini this January as they bid to solve their problems at the back, according to Forza Italian Football.

The 29-year-old has been with the Italian giants for most of his career, becoming a key player for Juve after making the move from Fiorentina in 2005, and could be seen as the ideal man to tighten things up in defence for Gerardo Martino’s side.

Barcelona currently lack much in the way of backup to Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol, with the latter now 35 years of age and looking past his best, and the Catalan giants have been linked with the likes of Eliaquim Mangala and David Luiz in recent times as they look to bring in a replacement for their long-serving captain.

Chiellini initially started his career as a left-back, though he is now widely regarded as one of the most solid central defenders in world football, and is currently the club’s second choice target behind Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, who seems unlikely to move to the Nou Camp.

Juve won’t want to lose such an influential player, but may be willing to listen to offers of around £12.8m for the Italian international.
