Chelsea Target £71m Premier League Trio: Report

Stamford Bridge boss wants to bring in fresh acquisitions in the January transfer window.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho appears keen to strengthen his Stamford Bridge squad this January and has been strongly linked with a trio of Premier League talents.

The Sunday People believe that Mourinho is readying a £20m bid for Everton youngster Ross Barkley.

Mourinho feels that the young England international can add a new dimension to his midfield and the future of Spaniard Juan Mata at Stamford Bridge is by no means certain.

A move to Chelsea could however stifled Barkley’s short term England hopes as first team football at the West London club would be by no means guaranteed.

The 19 year old is tied to a long term Toffees contract that runs until 2016 but a good offer may well be considered by Everton, especially if the Merseyside club continues to thwart interest in left-back Leighton Baines.

Barkley has played a pivotal role in Everton’s excellent start to the season which has seen Roberto Martinez’s side lose just one of their opening nine Premier League fixtures.

The box to box midfielder has started all nine of the club’s Premier League fixtures this term.

The Metro claim that Chelsea are readying a £35m bid for Man United striker Wayne Rooney, who is seemingly no nearer to committing himself to a long term Old Trafford contract.

Mourinho saw two offers for the 28 year old rejected over the summer but this latest offer will come as Rooney nears the final 18 months of his current Man United contract and as such the England man’s price-tag will start to drastically reduce from January onwards.

Though Rooney has been in fine form of late, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his last nine appearances, the longer his contract talks continue without success the more likely sides will look to take advantage of the situation.

Jose Mourinho will be keen on strengthening his attack and will see the possible capture of Rooney as a major coup.

Chelsea also continue to track Southampton left-back Luke Shaw with the Daily Express claiming that the teenager would be very keen on a move to join the West London club.

The 18 year old is apparently a Chelsea fan and would seemingly be ready to make the move to join the Stamford Bridge outfit over interest from the likes of Man United.

This source quotes an ‘inside as staing:

“Luke’s a huge Chelsea fan and he’d be delighted to play for them.”

The £16.5m rated defender could perhaps be seen as a long term replacement for veteran defender Ashley Cole.
