Southampton are interested in signing the brother of Victor Wanyama, Inter Milan midfield player McDonald Mariga, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The highly rated Kenya international very nearly moved to big-spending Premier League giants Manchester City three years ago, only for the 26-year-old’s proposed transfer to Eastlands to then fall through because City were unable to secure a work permit for him.

However, with Mariga having featured in 33 internationals for his country since making his debut for Kenya back in 2006, it is understood that Saints head coach Mauricio Pochettino is now confident of being able to lure the Kenyan to St Mary’s in January to join his brother on the South Coast.
