Real Madrid midfielder not interested in Serie A move.
Chelsea have been handed a potential boost in their bid to sign Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid, with the news that the 31-year-old has rejected an offer from Juventus, according to Football Italia.
The Spanish international, also wanted by his old club Liverpool, could be set to leave the Bernabeu at the end of this season as Real seem to be declining to offer him a new contract, with a number of top teams monitoring his situation.
Juventus had hoped to bring him in as a possible replacement for veteran playmaker Andrea Pirlo, who also looks set to be on the move in the near future with the likes of Tottenham interested in snapping him up.
However, Juve manager Antonio Conte will have to look elsewhere as it seems Alonso has told the club that he is not interested in a move to Serie A.
This will likely increase speculation that he is set to join his old manager Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea said to be keen on signing a new midfielder.
However, Alonso’s former club Liverpool may also be a tempting option, with the former Red enjoying some of the best form of his career during his time at Anfield.
