Everton Eye January Reinforcements After Losing Two Stars With Long-Term Knee Injuries

Spaniard will not just sign new players for the sake of it though.

Everton head coach Roberto Martinez has revealed that the in-form Merseyside giants may look to splash the cash when the winter transfer window opens again for business in the new year, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The Toffees suffered a huge blow on Thursday with the news that recent new signing Arouna Kone could now be out of action for the rest of this season after picking up a knee injury playing against Hull City in a Premier League clash at Goodison Park last month.

And as well as potentially losing the Ivory Coast international until next summer, Everton are currently having to make do without the services of Republic of Ireland international Darron Gibson too, after the midfield player also damaged his knee while away on international duty with his country in October.

“Arouna and Darren are two unexpected absences and we need to be as strong as we can be in the final third of the season, so we’ll have to look into [signing replacements],” Martinez said.

“We’re always looking, and in January we’ll have to see where we are. What’s important though is we never bring in players for the sake of it.

“It won’t be a case of getting someone just to make up the numbers.

“If we find the right players we’ll look into it but if not I will look at the U21s and younger players here and make sure someone steps up because I’ve been impressed in that regard and it’s important we keep that in mind.”
