Old Trafford side target Bernabeu star.
Man United are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid midfield maestro Xabi Alonso according to Sports Direct News.
The 31 year old has started just two La Liga fixtures this term and will be out of contract in the summer and it’s plausible that the Spanish giants would look to garner some sort of fee for the Spanish international in January over the probability of losing the World Cup winner on a free transfer in the summer.
Chelsea are also said to be keen on Alonso though David Moyes may well have pushed ahead in the race to bring in the former Liverpool man with representatives of the Old Trafford club having recently met with the experienced midfielder.
Alonso spent five successful seasons in the English top tier before completing a £30m move to the Bernabeu and could well be tempted by a move back to the Premier League. A return to Anfield seems unlikely given Liverpool’s youthful transfer policy but a move to either Chelsea or Man United may well be of interest to the cultured schemer.
Moyes could well do with an injection of quality in the centre of the park and a move for Xabi Alonso would be a cost effective manner of improving the Man United squad.
