22 year old attacking midfielder De Bruyne has started just two Premier League fixtures this season and this in turn may well lessen the youngster’s prominent role in the Belgium national team set-up, whilst also holding up his general career progression.
De Bruyne spent a successful season on loan at Werder Bremen last term and his form during that Bundesliga stint helped to secure a spot in the Chelsea first team set-up but he has failed to impress Jose Mourinho enough to gain a genuine foothold in his plans.
Belgium coach Marc Wilmots remarked recently;
“If he does not play, it is better for him to leave.
“Playing a World Cup after having not played for a year… is very difficult.
“If we want to get the best from Kevin in the future it is better that he leaves. But he’s a big boy. He must make his own choices.”
These sentiments have now been reiterated by team-mate Hazard.
