Top ten superstars signed by Manchester City since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover in 2008.

10. Gareth Barry (£12m from Aston Villa)

Steady-eddy Gareth Barry made the switch to City from Aston Villa in 2009, due to a desire to play Champions League football. The  midfielder pass-master teamed up with Nigel De Jong and Kolo Toure to build a solid midfield for the Manchester side’s title-winning side of 2011/12. Barry’s consistent form saw him included in the England  side but he left City this summer for Everton.

9. Edin Dzeko (£27m from Wolfsburg)

Dzeko is a natural goalscorer, with 66 goals in 111 appearances for Wolfsburg & 33 goals in 83 appearances for Manchester City. Dzeko has scored some very important goals whilst at City, his first goal for City was an equalizer in the FA Cup game against Notts County forcing a replay and keeping City in the FA Cup, which they would then go on to win. Dzeko also scored the equalizer in the final game of  the 2011/2012 season, a game which won City the Premier League title.

8. Gael Clichy (£7m from Arsenal)

Clichy picked up the second Premier League Winner’s medal of his career with City in the 2011/2012 season, making 28 appearances. The pacey Frenchman has since signed a four-year deal to keep him at the Etihad until 2017.

7. Alvaro Negredo (£16m from Sevilla)

Negrado moved from Sevilla in 2013, following Jesus Navas to Eastlands. Scoring three times in eleven league appearances so far this season, his first goal coming in his second appearance for City. Negrado also scored his first hat-trick for City in a 5-2 win over PFC CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League group stage. 

6. Samir Nasri (£25m from Arsenal)

Nasri immediately made his presence felt as a City player in , assisting three goals in a 5-1 defeat over Tottenham Hotspur on his debut. With Nasri assisting and scoring in the 2012 Community shield match against Chelsea , City won the game 3-2 and took the trophy. Nasri was also a part of the 2011/2012 team that won the Premier League title. So far this season Nasri has scored twice in eight appearances.

5. Matija Nastasic (£15m from Fiorentina)

Since joining City on a five year deal in 2012, 20 year old Nastasic has made a huge impact, overtaking Joleon Lescott as first choice in the centre-back defensive position. Nastasic has become a fan favourite, winning the Manchester City Young Player Of The Year Award for the 2012/2013 season.

4. Yaya Toure (£24m from Barcelona)

Yaya has become a vital force in City’s Midfield, taking up a more attacking midfield role under Mancini. Yaya has scored 20 times for City, the most important of which coming in the 1-0 win over Stoke City in the 2011 FA Cup final, winning City their first major trophy in 35 years. Yaya has been nominated for the 2013 FIFA Ballon d’Or award.

 

3. Mario Balotelli (£24.5m from Internazionale)

Balotelli made a very big impact at City during his time there, with his off the pitch antics often landing him in trouble with then manager Mancini. Balotelli has scored a total of 20 goals in 54 appearances, scoring his first goal for City on his debut against Politehnica Timisoara. Balotelli also won the Golden Boy Award in 2010, an award given to the most impressive player during the season.

2. David Silva (£24m from Valencia)

Silva has won three trophies with City including the FA Cup 2011, FA Community shield 2012 and the most prized being the Premier League 2011/2012. Silva is a brilliant playmaker, with 49 assists and 21 goals for City. Silva was also part of the Spanish National side that won the FIFA World Cup in 2010.

1. Sergio Aguero (£38m from Atletico Madrid)

Aguero has an undeniable ability to score goals, finding the back of the net 184 times in his career. Arguably the  most important goal in City’s Premier League history was scored by Aguero  in the 94th minute of the final game of the 2011/2012 season against QPR, this goal saw Manchester City win their first League title in 44 years.
