Steve Young emerged out of the shadow of Joe Montana and led the 49ers to a brilliant season with a 13-3 regular season record.
Young completed 70.3 per cent of his passes for 3,969 yards and 35 touchdowns, while Jerry Rice, Ricky Watters and Brent Jones played their roles receiving.
San Francisco scored 131 points in three playoff games, and cruised to a 49-26 Super Bowl win over the San Diego Chargers.
