The former Welsh international, who turns 40 on Friday, was a part of the side that handed Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen a 5-0 humbling in the Champions League earlier in the week, and though he gave a good performance it is believed that he is finally ready to hang up his boots at the end of the current campaign.
However, it is also thought that he will seek out his mentor Sir Alex Ferguson before finally making an announcement and he is keeping his lips sealed for the time being over what his future plans might be.
Giggs sees his future in coaching and reportedly sees his bit part playing role at the club as more of a hindrance the a help and is keen to continue his education now.
A source close to the player said; “He has the opportunity of taking up another one year rolling contract and will make a final decision in the summer after talking to those who are close to him.
“He will have a long heart-to-heart with his current manager [David Moyes] about how things will develop on the coaching front and obviously will be pleased to get Sir Alex’s views.”
