Top Ten Chelsea Transfer Targets 2013

CaughtOffside predicts the top ten January transfer targets for Chelsea.

 

10. Nemanja Matic – Benfica

Former Chelsea youth product went out into the world and took Portugal by storm. He is now being linked with a host of top Premier League sides and the Blues would do well to get him back.

9. Luke Shaw – Southampton

Apparently a boyhood Chelsea fan, the young Saints full-back would be the ideal candidate to replace the ageing Ashley Cole at left back. However, they’ll need to guarantee him some first team experience so that his development isn’t hindered.

8. Blaise Matuidi – Paris Saint Germain

With his future unsure in the French capital, the domineering central midfielder would be the ideal man to tighten things up in front of the back four at Stamford Bridge.

7. Eliaquim Mangala – Porto

With David Luiz looking like he is set to leave soon, the club will need someone to replace him, meaning they could finally spring for Mangala after keeping tabs on him for so long.

6. Gianelli Imbula – Marseille

The Marseille midfielder has been in fine form for the Ligue 1 outfit this season and it has been no surprise to see that Mourinho has been keeping tabs on him. Impressed against Arsenal in the Champions League.

5. Burak Yilmaz – Galatasaray

The Turk has continued his sparkling form of last season into the current campaign and has seen no shortage of interested partied for him signature. Chelsea still need a goalscorer more than ever now that Samuel Eto’o has been ruled out of action.

4. Jackson Martinez – Porto

Still regarded as one of the hottest properties in Europe, Mourinho will be hoping to utilise his ties with his former employers to ensure that the Colombian ends up wearing a blue jersey in the near future.

 

3. Edinson Cavani – Paris Saint Germain

The powerful Uruguayan forward only joined the Parisian giants over the summer but is already apparently feeling a little disillusioned in France by having to play second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. And though his World Cup spot is not in doubt, he will want to play regular football at the top flight and Chelsea could be an ideal destination.

2. Xabi Alonso – Real Madrid

The former Liverpool man’s contract issue has yet to be resolved in Madrid and Mourinho will be looking to take advantage of that by bringing him back to the Premier League. The pair enjoyed a good working relationship whilst at Real together and Alonso has frequently claimed that he misses life in the English top flight.

1. Radamel Falcao – Monaco

Linked with a move for the powerful striker over the sumer, he chose to join French moneybags Monaco instead and has been lighting up Ligue 1 in the process as they continue to make a strong start to life back in the top flight. However, he is reportedly unhappy at having to play in front of dwindling crowds and wants a higher standard of football.
