Man United Target Top-Notch Trio as David Moyes Is ‘Expected’ to Buy In January Transfer Window

Old Trafford side look to strengthen squad next month.

Man United boss David Moyes is ready to invest in his Old Trafford squad next month with the Daily Telegraph outlining three players high up on the Scot’s wish-list.

The Premier League title holders continue to track Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera having failed with summer bids for the 24 year old, who has been in excellent form this term to help the Basque outfit mount a genuine challenge for a Champions League berth.

The central midfielder is still to win a senior Spanish national team call-up but is considered one of the most consistent performers in La Liga though Herrera may well be tempted to leave the Spanish top tier in pursuit of a move to Man United.

David Moyes could be keen to further freshen up his midfield having brought in Marouane Fellaini over the summer though such a move could end up costing Man United as much as £30m.

Man United also continue to track Everton full-back Leighton Baines, having failed with moves to capture the England man during the last transfer window.

With Patrice Evra seemingly set to leave Man United in the summer, when his current contract comes to an end, there is certainly scope for a left-back signing with Dutch international Alexander Buttner rarely used by Moyes and his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson.

Everton will be loathed to lose Baines to their former boss but a big money offer could well succeed in January, especially if the 29 year old pushes for a Goodison Park exit.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is another top-class player on Man United’s wish-list with the 23 year old German international seen as another option to help strengthen the club’s midfield options.

The box to box performer is contracted to Borussia Dortmund until 2015 but has resisted advances to extend his deal and this has left the Bundesliga club fearful of losing the player for a fraction of his real value or indeed for nothing, with Robert Lewandowski set to also run down his current contract ahead of a likely move to domestic rivals Bayern Munich.

The former Nurnberg man was pivotal in helping Dortmund to the Champions League final last term.
