Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

New United head coach David Moyes is known to be on the look-out for more creativity, invention and goals from his at times stagnant midfield, and the player that the Scot has earmarked to solve all those problems is the highly rated and in-demand 24-year-old from the Ruhr Valley.

However, the Premier League champions will need to open their cheque books as the Germany international has a whopping buyout clause worth a reported £42.5 million.

Leighton Baines (Everton)

One of the longest-running transfer sagas of the recent summer has still not come to a conclusion as the Merseysiders remain determined to hold on to their star man at all costs, while the Red Devils themselves are still desperate to lure the England international to Old Trafford at the turn of the year as a replacement for departing left-back Patrice Evra.

Ilkay Gundogan (Borussia Dortmund)

The in-demand Germany holding midfield player has been linked with a whole host of big-name clubs throughout the Continent of late, and it seems certain that the 23-year-old will definitely be departing the Bundesliga giants at some point next year after he refused to put pen to paper on a new deal with Jurgen Klopp’s side, with the Theatre of Dreams still one of the player’s most likeliest destinations.

Ander Herrera (Athletic Bilbao)

The top-flight giants made a much-publicised move for the young Spanish midfield player in the final hours on transfer deadline day, only to fail in their efforts to land the 24-year-old, but if recent reports are to be believed, then manager David Moyes is still planning on returning to the Basque country in the new year with an improved offer for the player.

Everton Ribeiro (Cruzeiro)

The recently crowned Brazilian Player of the Season has made it clear that he now wishes to take his career on to the next level by sealing a lucrative move to Europe when the winter transfer window reopens again for business in January, with United said to be the 24-year-old’s preferred choice of destination.

And with the Premier League giants having been keeping close tabs on the attacking midfield player since the beginning of the season, the Brazilian’s dream could very well come true in the new year.

Fabio Coentrao (Real Madrid)

Another potential target that boss David Moyes just missed out on landing in the final hours on transfer deadline after the Red Devils were unable to complete the required paperwork in time to be able to bring the highly rated Portugal international on a season-long loan to Old Trafford.

However, with the 25-year-old having now been relegated to back-up left back at the Santiago Bernabeu by new los Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti, United are expected to return to the Spanish capital in January for the attacking full back.

Alberto Moreno (Sevilla)

The newly capped Spain international is fast developing a reputation as the best and most promising young left back in La Liga, so much so that a number of the Continent’s biggest clubs have been linked with the 21-year-old of late, including the Premier League champions, who are known to be in need of a replacement going forward for veteran Frenchman Patrice Evra at Old Trafford.

Koke (Atletico de Madrid)

Another new Spain star who has been catching the eye of the Red Devils is the in-form Atleti midfield player with an eye for goal after the 21-year-old managed to register a highly impressive three goals and nine assists in just 15 La Liga contests for the high-flying capital club so far in this season.

Eliaquim Mangala (FC Porto)

The highly rated and massively in-demand France international has a whopping £40m buyout clause in his current deal at the Dragao that runs until June 30 2016, although if United do decide to move for the powerful centre back in January though, it is thought that the Portuguese champions would be willing to part company with the 22-year-old for a fee somewhere in the region of £30m.

Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid)

The brilliant Argentinian wide man has recently been dropped to the substitutes’ bench by new Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, with the Italian instead preferring to go with a three-man attack comprising Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

And as a result, it is understood that the 25-year-old has now asked his representative, super-agent Jorge Mendes, to seal him a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu in January in order to keep alive the winger’s dream of starting for his country at next summer’s Fifa World Cup finals in Brazil.
