Top 10 Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Targets

The top ten Tottenham transfer targets of the January transfer window.

10. Patrick Herrmann – Borussia Monchengladbach

Another exciting young midfielder to come out of Germany, the Gladbach midfielder would add a creative spark in the middle that has somehow deserted the club this season despite their heavy transfer activity over the summer. He fits in with Daniel Levy’s current recruitment policy and could be available for as little as £7.5m.

9. Alberto Botia – Sevilla

The young Spaniard was linked with a move to White Heart Lane earlier on in the year but the club resisted and sent him out on loan to Elche instead where he has continued to catch the eye with a string of calm and assured performances. With Andre Villas- Boas preferring to play a high defensive line that the current crop struggle with, he may be tempted to make a return for the player in the new year.

8. Miralem Pjanic – Roma

The Bosnian has seen himself become one of Europe’s most sought after attackers this season as Roma continue to dominate at the top of the Serie A standings, and though his signature won’t be easy to come by, if he should decide on making the move to the Premier League then Spurs will be in pole position to snap him up.

A player that Spurs were hotly linked with over the summer, a move didn’t materialise, but Dzagoev is not getting any younger (despite still actually being quite young) and will hope to test himself at the top level sooner rather than later. Spurs would be more than willing to give him his opportunity too.

6. Alexandre Pato – Corinthians

Pato is a player that has already sampled the high life in Europe and is reportedly champing at the bit to get back and do it all over again. He’s already fallen out of favour in his homeland and will look toward a winter move to help secure his place in the Selecao ahead of next summer’s World Cup. Getting one over on Arsenal in the process wouldn’t go amiss either.

5. Mohamed Salah – FC Basel

The Egyptian international has lit Europe up over the last two years and is very much a part of the in vogue Basel side that everybody wants a piece of at the moment. Helped vanquish Chelsea twice already, he would make a lively addition to the squad still struggling to fill the void left by Gareth Bale over the summer.

4. Christian Benteke – Aston Villa

The powerful Belgian is still Villa’s top scorer this term despite injury and a slight loss of form. He has already been proven at Premier League level and would take no time to settle into life in the capital. Spurs had tried to sign him over the summer but to no avail and if they were to try their luck again they would need to dig deep in order to convince Paul Lambert to part with his star man.

3. Fabio Coentrao – Real Madrid

With Jan Vertonghen having to fill in at left-back (and subsequently moan about it) it is likely that a replacement for Assou-Ekotto will finally need to be brought in during the January window. Coentrao was heavily linked with a switch to White Heart Lane over the summer, and as his own playing situation is yet to improve in Spain he could probably have his arm twisted at taking another look at AVB’s men.

2. Juan Mata – Chelsea

It is absolute beggars belief that Mata has been left out in the cold at Stamford Bridge this term and there are no shortage of potential suitors to take advantage of their unusual decision. Spurs would be a good destination for him to kick start his season, however, with the likes of Paris Saint Germain also said to be interested Daniel Levy will need to act quickly and decisively if he hopes to bring the Spaniard on board.

1. Andrea Pirlo – Juventus

He may be the wrong side of 30, but the boy can still play and there is absolutely no doubt that he would be a hit during his short time in England. Still able to command a game with a simple flick of the boot, he would add an abundance of class to Tottenham’s whole complexion and give them a dimension that they’ve never had before.
