The experienced England international left Eastlands to move to Goodison Park on transfer deadline day, however, Barry has now claimed that he was also in contact with the north London club before he then opted to move to Merseyside.

“There was contact with Arsenal over the summer,” said Barry ahead of the two top-flight giants’ meeting at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.

“They were interested, but I think they went down the road with Flamini who was training with them, and I joined Everton instead.”

Barry, 32, has been in outstanding form though for Roberto Martinez’s in-form side ever since making the switch back in September, with the player having so far featured in a total of 11 matches in all competitions under the Spaniard, 10 of which have come in the Premier League, during which time he has registered three assists for the team.

And now it is even thought that Barry could make his stay at Everton permanent come the conclusion of his loan spell at the end of this current campaign, when by which point the player will be available to buy on a lucrative free transfer from City.
