Ten Transfers That We Think Could Happen in the January Window

With the winter transfer window now less than a month away from opening again for business for the year, we take a look at ten possible deals that may take place in January.

Radamel Falcao: AS Monaco to Chelsea

The prolific Colombia international is generally regarded as being the most complete penalty-box operator currently plying his trade on the Continent and having not settled at his new club in the South of France following his big-money move from La Liga outfit Atletico de Madrid last summer, it is now expected that the striker will move to the Uefa Europa League holders at the turn of the year, at least if the Daily Star is to be believed.

Alvaro Morata: Real Madrid to Arsenal

The highly rated young Spain Under-21 international has once again found himself twiddling his thumbs at the Santiago Bernabeu in this campaign, with the 21-year-old having spent more time warming the substitutes’ bench of late than actually getting on the field of play.

And according to the Daily Express, Premier League leaders Arsenal now want to take advantage of the Spaniard’s unhappiness with los Blancos by persuading the forward to spend the second half of this campaign on loan in north London, ahead of a possible permanent move to the Emirates next season.

Will Hughes: Derby County to Liverpool

The much talked about and in-demand young England U21 international has been one of, if not the, standout performers with the Rams in the Championship so far in this campaign, so much so that Premier League giants Liverpool have been heavily linked with the goalscoring midfield player of late.

And if stories in the Daily Express are right, then Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers will attempt to lure the 18-year-old away from Pride Park as soon as the winter window opens next month.

Eliaquim Mangala: FC Porto to Manchester City

The powerful France international is currently one of the most eye-catching and promising centre backs in Europe, with Mangala having been an absolute rock at the back for Portuguese champions ever since moving to the Dragao from Belgium outfit Standard Liege in August 2011 for a fee of just 6.5m euros.

And now , say the Daily Star, the 22-year-old is set to move to Eastlands in January as the north-west giants attempt to strengthen their so far porous back line.

Fabio Coentrao: Real Madrid to Tottenham Hotspur

The attacking full back has barely been used so far in this campaign by newly appointed los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti, with the Italian instead preferring to go with Brazil left-back Marcelo instead.

And with the north London club known to be in desperate need of a new left-sided full back at White Hart Lane in this second half of this season, it is believed that manager Andre Villas-Boas will attempt to land the 25-year-old on a six-month loan deal in January with a view to then signing the player on a full-time basis next summer, reports the Daily Mail.

Everton Ribeiro: Cruzeiro to Manchester United

According to the agent of the up-and-coming Brazilian star in the Metro, the attacking midfield player is on the verge of completing a move to the Premier League champions at the turn of the year after his client shone for his club back in his homeland of late, with the 24-year-old’s eye-catching displays going along way towards helping Cruzeiro win last season’s national championship.

Andrea Ranocchia: Inter Milan to Chelsea

With the west London club preparing to lose central defender David Luiz to La Liga champions FC Barcelona in the January window, returning Blues head coach Jose Mourinho is believed to already be drawing up a short list of possible centre backs to replace the Brazil international, says the Daily Mirror.

And the defender the self-styled Special One has apparently lined up for a move to Stamford Bridge next month is Inter’s 25-year-old Italy international.

Willy Caballero: Malaga to Manchester City

New Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has already lost all faith in No 1 Joe Hart, with the English keeper now no longer even first choice at Eastlands, with the highly experienced Chilean trainer now thought to be keen to sign Malaga’s Argentinian shot stopper, who he worked with during his time in charge of the Southern Spanish side, in January to replace his error-prone goalkeeper, according to reports in the Daily Star

Neilton: Santos to Tottenham Hotspur

The north London club have been heavily linked with the 19-year-old Brazilian wonderkid dubbed ‘the new Neymar’ back in his homeland due to his similarities to the FC Barcelona playmaker, and now Spurs are set to sign the forward in January, say the Daily Mail.

Leighton Baines: Everton to Manchester United

The England international will finally complete his long-awaited move to Old Trafford next month for a fee of £16m, with the Premier League champions having been chasing the 28-year-old left back ever since new boss David Moyes arrived in the north west last summer, claims ESPN.
