Reports have suggested that Manuel Pellegrini sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old in last week’s Premier League encounter with Arsenal and came back with glowing reviews over what they saw at the Emirates.
Barkley has been on of the club’s standout performers for the Toffees this season, as he has formed a central part of their midfield that has enjoyed such success during the early stages of the campaign. His form has also seen him make a breakthrough into the England national set up as well as garner interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
Roberto Martinez is not known to be looking to cash in on his prized starlet, and having previously lost Jack Rodwell to City in similar circumstances the club will be keen to make sure he does not follow the same path.
However, City’s considerable financial clout could force the Merseyside club to reconsider when the transfer window re-opens in January.
