And now Spurs have placed their former midfield player and the club’s current technical co-ordinator, overseeing the development teams, in temporary charge for initially at least their next two fixtures against West Ham United in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday, followed by a trip to Southampton in the league on Sunday.
But there remains the possibility that the one-time England international could be handed the reins until the end of the campaign if he impresses in these next two matches.
