Sports Direct News claims that the England Under 21 international is seen by Wenger as the man to add more strength in depth to the Arsenal defence in the immediate term whilst also offering a great deal of long term potential.
Currently Wenger can call upon Thomas Vermaelen as a back-up option for his first choice central defensive pairing Laureny Koscielny and Per Mertesacker but the French boss believes Dier may be a good quality addition to his Gunners ranks.
As well as looking to boost his back-line Wenger is perhaps more urgently seeking striking reinforcements and has set his sights on Bundesliga striker Adrian Ramos according to Sports Direct News.
The 27 year old Colombian is having the stand-out season of his career having scored ten goals in 16 Bundesliga starts following a successful campaign last term to help his Hertha Berlin side to promotion back to the top tier.
Ramos may feel that a high-profile move to Arsenal would aid his push for a more prominent role in the Colombian national team set-up, a tough task given that the likes of AS Monaco ace Radamel Falcao and FC Porto forward Jackson Martinez stand in his path.
Wenger is looking to bring in striking alternatives to help take some pressure off first choice striker Olivier Giroud, pressure that has been increase due to the long running injury concerns plaguing German forward Lukas Podolski.
