West Brom are looking for a suitable replacement for Steve Clarke, who was let go after last weekend’s defeat to Cardiff and had looked to sound out the 36-year-old, who has been linked with a number of jobs since losing his job with Spurs at the beginning of the week.

The Portuguese coach had been tipped for the vacant post with Ligue 1 giants Marseille, but has so far declined to comment on where his future may lie.

However, respected Portuguese journalist Goncalo Lopes took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to rule AVB out of the running.

Some have suggested that AVB will look to take some time out of the game before returning to the dugout wither in England or on continental Europe. He was sacked after only eight months in charge at Stamford Bridge. He fared marginally better at Spurs, lasting 17 months at White Heart Lane.
