Will Hughes (Derby County)

One of the undoubted stars of the Championship season so far in this campaign, with the England Under-21 international having been closely monitored by the Merseyside giants since the beginning of the year.

And now it is expected that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will follow up that interest by making a firm offer for the attacking midfield player when the winter window reopens, although with the high-flying Championship outfit desperate to keep hold of the coveted 18-year-old at Pride Park, at least until the end of this campaign as they seek to gain promotion to the Premier League, the Northern Irishman may face a struggle to land his man.

Diego Costa (Atletico de Madrid)

The deadly Brazil-born marksman was targeted by the in-form Merseyside outfit in the previous transfer window, only for the player himself to subsequently then turn down a big-money move to Anfield even though the Reds had met the £22 million release clause in his contract.

However, it is still expected that Liverpool will return with another offer for the recently called up Spain international as soon as the window is open again as boss Brendan Rodgers looks to add the necessary firepower needed to fire the club into a top-four finish in the Premier League come the end of this campaign.

 Mohamed Salah (Basel)

Liverpool have reportedly been keeping close tabs on the skilful, tricky wide man for most of this season, and by all accounts the Reds have been hugely impressed with what they have seen, with the club’s scouting team having sent back a number of glowing reports on the 21-year-old.

However, it is understood that the Merseysiders are not the only Premier League outfit to have been tracking the Egypt international, whose displays in the the Uefa Champions League in particular have really caught the eye, and so they face a fight with the likes of rivals Tottenham Hotspur to land the player in January.

Martin Montoya (FC Barcelona)

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre reportedly flew to Spain recently to enter into discussions with the La Liga champions about the possibility of signing the highly rated Spaniard in the new year.

And with the 22-year-old’s current deal at Camp Nou only running until June 30 2014, it is expected that Barca would rather offload the 24-year-old for a cut-price fee in January than risk losing the attacking full back on a free transfer come the end of this season.

Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea)

It is an open secret around Anfield that manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign a new left back next month, with current first-choice Jose Enrique still out of action until February after having surgery to a knee injury recently.

And the player that the Northern Irishman is said to be eyeing up is the west London club’s out-of-favour England international.

Ivan Rakitic (Sevilla)

The Reds have been scouting the Croatia international of late, with the 25-year-old currently enjoying a wonderful season in midfield for the Liga giants.

In fact, so far the player has managed to hit the back of the net on nine occasions in total in his 22 matches in all competitions for the Spaniards and it is those kind of attacking numbers that have made the Croat a target for the Reds next month.
