Top Five Striker Signings Arsenal Should Consider Making In the January Transfer Window

Five strikers that Arsenal should target during the January transfer window.

5. Jay Rodriguez – Southampton

The Saints striker has seen his form improve dramatically since linking up with the club at the beginning of last season. It has improved so much so that he is now an England international and is enjoying life at a club playing progressive football.

He may not be a star name just yet, but he does boast a goalscoring record on par with Olivier Giroud (eight in 20 as opposed to Giroud’s eight in 18) and can bring players in from out wide just like the Frenchman does too.

4. Michu – Swansea City

Though he is currently on the sidelines with an injury, the Spaniard is still regarded as one of the most dangerous frontmen in the English top flight and is expected to command a top fee if someone likes him enough to take him away from the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea have previously stated that he could be available for the right price – however, that price is believed to be around £30m.  But for that price Arsenal would be signing a proven Premier League goalscorer who possesses a versatility that would be invaluable when Wenger eventually has a fully fit squad to choose from.

3. Alvaro Morata – Real Madrid

The young Spaniard has been tipped to make a move away from the club on a short term basis, and though that wouldn’t be ideal it would give him the chance to prove just what he can do with a regular run of games under his belt.

Morata is highly rated in the capital, and has a lot of positive attributes to his game, something which Wenger would be pleased to have at his disposal and could now pounce after the injuries to Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner.

2. Christian Benteke – Aston Villa

The Villa powerhouse has not been able to reach the heights of last season yet thanks to injury and a general loss of form. The structure Villa use to play does not necessarily suit his game and his confidence has suffered as a result.

However, given the outstanding creative talent that the Gunners possess they will be in a much healthier position to help him out of his funk and get him back to the level he deserves to be at – just in time for the World Cup too.

1. Diego Costa – Atletico Madrid

If there is any chance at all that the Gunners may be able to bring the Brazilian-born Spaniard, they must take it – whatever the cost.

His form for the Rojoblancos this season has been exemplary and has seen him become one of the most sought after stars on the continent, with good reason.

However, Atletico’s previous star striker was tipped to make a move to a so called “bigger club” last summer but ended up making a sideways step at best. Hopefully Costa won’t make the same mistake.
