Exclusive: Chelsea Hope to Raise £100m as Jose Mourinho Prepares to Offload 12 In Major Squad Overhaul

Stamford Bridge boss ready to make massive changes to his squad over the course of the next two transfer windows.

Jose Mourinho will look to offload as many as a dozen of his expansive Chelsea playing staff as he seeks to put his own stamp on the Blues squad.

CaughtOffside understands that the Portuguese boss has grown frustrated with the lack of consistency shown by an alarming portion of his squad and though Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to finance moves for new additions the Russian billionaire has insisted that the club’s wage bill is slashed.

Mourinho believes he can make upwards of £100m from the sales of players that he feels offer little to his squad or are not showing him enough consistency to warrant continued support from a manager who is keen to re-build the club from top to bottom.

Those he wishes to sell includes Belgian trio Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois and Romelu Lukaku, players Mourinho believes he can accrue a sizable sum for.

Mourinho’s willingness to sell loaned out keeper Thibaut Courtois stems from his readiness to stick with Czech Republic keeper Petr Cech and Abramovich does not wish to loan out the young custodian to Atletico Madrid for yet another season long loan spell and the Vicente Calderon side have been given first refusal for the 21 year old.

Attacking midfielder De Bruyne is destined to move to Wolfsburg, with the Bundesliga side edging nearer to meeting Chelsea’s £20m asking price. Jose Mourinho’s search for fresh striking options will see 20 year old striker Lukaku made available for sale, though tellingly the West London side will not sell to domestic rivals, which could mean high-flying Everton may not be able to make their temporary signing a permanent one.

Veteran left-back Ashley Cole will not be offered a new deal and Chelsea will be happy to have the England man’s big wages wiped off the balance sheet. The 33 year old has fallen out of favour in recent months and could well be on his way to Real Madrid, with former Stamford Bridge boss Carlo Ancelotti said to be interested in acquiring the wide-man.

Midfielder Michael Essien will also be on his way and could be loaned out for the remainder of the current season or sold outright with no shortage of offers coming in for the Ghana international with a number of Ligue 1 sides looking to land the tough tackler.

Whilst Brazilian David Luiz has reacted well following his spell on the Chelsea bench, convincing Mourinho that the fan favourite has a future at the club, though perhaps as a defensive midfielder and not centre-back, the same fate doesn’t look like it will befall Juan Mata.

The Spaniard’s form has suffered this season as a result of the uncertainty of his place in Mourinho’s starting eleven and the petulant manner in which he took being subbed at Southampton appears to be the final straw and good offers for the 25 year old will be considered, though once again not from Premier League rivals.

Loaned out winger Victor Moses, who has failed to impress at Anfield when used, will also be put on the market as will German wide-man Marko Marin though it’s unclear whether cash strapped Sevilla, where he is currently plying his trade on loan, can afford to buy the player outright.

Mourinho has been scathing of the form shown by strike trio Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o, so much so that he isn’t all that keen on keeping any of the failing forwards though would only sell all three should he have brought in at least two new additions.

Cameroon international Eto’o only joined Chelsea on a one year deal and could well agree a deal to move to the MLS this month.

Perennial back-up keeper Hilario will also leave Chelsea completing this dozen long list of players Jose Mourinho is ready and willing to see leave the Premier League side in either of the next two transfer windows.

Chelsea’s move to cut costs ahead of Mourinho’s pursuit of further additions is in no small part due to the club’s posting of a £49m loss for the 2012/13 fiscal year.
