Stamford Bridge side look to bring in Old Trafford star.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is confident he can land Man United striker Wayne Rooney in the summer according to the Daily Telegraph.

Mourinho believes he can lure the 28 year old to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and that belief will mean that the Portuguese boss will not look to bring in a stop-gap striking addition in January, leaving the West London side to struggle on with the misfiring trio of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o, a risky move as Chelsea push for major honours.
Rooney will have a year to run on his Old Trafford contract come the summer and whilst Man United are apparently confident that the in-form forward will sign a new deal if a top four spot is secured there is no guarantee that David Moyes will deliver on that front with his side currently sitting in seventh place in the table some five points off Liverpool in the last Champions League qualification spot.
This source points out that even if Man United refused to sell Rooney in the summer the forward can buy himself out of his current contract as per new UEFA guidelines and though such a move would be costly for the player clearly the rewards of doing so, a hefty signing on fee from Chelsea, would make such a move financially viable.
Rooney had been strongly linked with a move away from Man United over the summer following Sir Alex Ferguson’s claim that he had asked to leave the club, a claim the former Everton man has always vehemently denied.
Wayne Rooney started the season shakily but has found his feet this term and is arguably Man United’s most consistent performer this season, being currently both the club’s top scorer and top assist maker in Premier League action.
