Paul Pogba

David Moyes has a lot to thank Sir Alex Ferguson for but he must the rueing the day his predecessor let Paul Pogba slip through his fingers. The France international left United on a free for Juventus in summer 2012 and played a key role in helping the Old Lady to the Scudetto in his first season. Since leaving Old Trafford, the 20-year-old has established himself as one of the finest midfielders in Europe and is a shoe-in for the France squad at next summer’s World Cup. But Juventus have admitted they may not be able to hold on to their prized asset, which could open the door for a shock return to Manchester. It remains to be seen if Pogba would welcome a return to the club which he feels did not give him a fair chance, however.

Ilkay Gundogan

Previously overshadowed by the likes of Mario Goetze and Robert Lewandowski, Gundogan has gradually risen to the top of the pile at Borussia Dortmund and the 23-year-old has been frequently linked with Real Madrid since scoring in last season’s Champions League final. More recently, United are thought to have expressed an interest in the Germany international, who coyly admitted on Wednesday ‘everything is still open’. But Gundogan is primarily a box-t0-box player and may not be the creative force David Moyes is looking for.

Arturo Vidal

While the Premier League’s Aaron Ramsey and Yaya Toure (among others) have been branded ‘the complete midfielder’, this accolade surely belongs to Vidal alone. The Chilean can play almost anywhere across the midfield and do any role, and David Moyes’ only worry if he did manage to land the 26-year-old would be how to get the best out of him. The Scot is reportedly keen on both Vidal and Pogba – a sensational move which would leave Juventus reeling and suddenly make Man United good again.

Ander Herrera

The Spaniard very nearly completed a move to Manchester United in August and interest from Old Trafford has reportedly not gone away. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, the classy Spaniard is reportedly keen to stay at Athletic Bilbao at least until the summer.

Koke

Along with Diego Costa, Spain’s latest prodigy has been the driving force behind Atletico Madrid’s unlikely assault of both La Liga and Champions League, providing the creative spark in Diego Simeon’s stylish yet well-drilled outfit. United reportedly sent a delegation to the Spanish capital early this month in the hope of thrashing out a deal for Koke but Atletico seem hopeful the youngster will remain at the Vicente Calderon for years to come.
