The 24-year-old is largely deployed on the right side of midfield, though he is also capable of operating in the middle just behind the strikers and has been in impressive form this season with Serie A side Cagliari.
He has previously rejected a move to England when he left hometown team Brommapojkarna for Juventus is 2008, turning down approaches from both Chelsea and Inter Milan in the process.
However, he wasn’t able to establish himself in Turin and was shipped out on loan to Sienna before joining fellow Italian side Bologna a year later.
The Swede has become an integral part of the Cagliari side over the past two-and-a-half seasons, and Spurs boss Tim Sherwood is apparently ready to bring him to White Heart Lane before the end of the January transfer window.
Ekdal has appeared for several youth sides at international level, and has collected seven caps for the Swedish national side already with more said to be in the pipeline.
