The talented French Under 21 international is set to return to action after serving a long term ban following a hideous challenge and his Ligue 1 employers have placed a £16.5m price-tag on the teenager, a fee that is unlikely to scare off Jose Mourinho, who may see the youngster as a long term replacement for veteran centre-back John Terry.
Zouma is also being linked with interest from Man United, Arsenal, PSG, Inter Milan and AS Monaco and seems likely to leave his current side in pursuit of a move to join Europe’s ‘Elite’ but not until his valuation is met.
Despite only turning 19 last October Zouma is into his third season in the Saint-Etienne first team and has already made 61 appearances for the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard side who are currently riding high up in fourth place in the Ligue 1 table.
Mourinho may well be keen to bring in youthful additions as he sets about putting his stamp on the Chelsea squad and could perhaps be looking to strengthening his defence given that the Portuguese boss appears to prefer using Brazilian David Luiz in a defensive midfield role.
