Mexican international on Rodgers’ hit list.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to make an under the radar bid for Valencia winger Andres Guardado during the January transfer window.

Rodgers has been looking to add more bang and thrust to his midfield this season to help keep the club in the running for coveted and lucrative Champions League spot at the end of the season and has sent his scouts on an extensive search of Europe in order to help him find the right players to bring on board.
However, his search has landed him at the door of Valencia, who’s Mexican international winger Andres Guardado has caught his eye, as he hopes to be able to put new faces into wide positions and more central roles. Furthermore, the 27-year-old can also operate at left-back, which is another position that has given the manager problems this term and his versatility has been another reason for the reported interest.
Guardado has been plying his trade in La Liga since 2007 when he signed for Deportivo La Coruna from Atlas in his homeland and went on to make nearly 150 appearances for the club before linking up with Los Che in the summer of 2012.
And since joining Valencia he has been a mainstay in the side, clocking up 41 appearances last term, and chipping in with one goal and six assists in the process. He has continued his run in the starting XI this term too, and has currently made 20 appearances in all competitions.
However, the one stumbling block on a potential deal could be the lack of European football that the Merseysiders would be able to offer. Valencia are currently in the last 32 of the Europa League this season, and qualified from their group alongside Swansea City. They will travel to the Ukraine to face Dynamo Kiev at the end of February and stand a very good chance at progressing even further, so Rodgers will need to be able to convince him that they are more than capable of securing Champions League football for next year.
It is believed that a bid of just £8m would be enough to get the Spanish side’s attention, though he is still under contract at the club until the summer of 2016 and with prices frequently inflated in the new year the Reds may have to dig a little deeper if they are serious about landing his signature.
