Chelsea Boss Confirms Man United Deal for Juan Mata Will Be Finalised ‘Soon’

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says Juan Mata will soon be a Manchester United player and has confirmed the Spaniard has been given permission to have a medical at Carrington.

Mata is expected to complete a club-record £37m move to United in the next 48 hours after Mourinho confirmed the deal would be finalised ‘soon’.

The Spanish playmaker needs playing time if he is to secure a place in his country’s World Cup for next summer’s tournament in Brazil and helping Manchester United recover from a dreadful first six months under David Moyes could see the pass-master force his way back into Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque’s thoughts.

Last season in the Premier League, Mata played 35 matches, scoring 11 goals and providing a staggering 17 assists. The former Valencia has been named Chelsea’s player of the year for previous two campaigns but has lost his place to Brazilian summer signing Willian this term, with Oscar shifted into Mata’s number 10 position behind a lone striker.
