Matuidi is currently stalling on new terms at the Parc des Princes and City have been sniffing around to see if they can strike a deal for the player.
Knowing that Laurent Blanc is keen on signing France international defender Gael Clichy, they are ready to ask for the former Saint Etienne midfielder if they firm up their interest in the left back.
Clichy is currently being kept out of the City side by Aleksander Kolarov but that hasn’t stopped Blanc from keeping an eye on him over the course of the campaign.
City are now thought to be willing to let him go as they are currently attempting to cut their wage bill back to fall in line with the first phase of FIFA’s new Financial Fair Play ruling, and with Clichy only featuring in domestic cup competitions he is the easiest decision to make when it comes to futures.
Matuidi currently only has six months left to run on his deal in Paris and has yet to commit to new terms, but City are keen on taking him away after checking on Jack Rodwell’s long term fitness.
