The new franchise, which has been heavily invested in by Premier League giants Manchester City, were hoping to bring the Spanish World Cup winner on board to the club after Blues director Ferran Soriano and Director of Football Txiki Bergiristain enjoyed a good relationship with the player when they held boardroom positions with the Catalan side.
The new side aren’t set to begin competing until 2015 and they had been looking to the 33-year-old as a marquee signing, but shortly after playing his 700th game for the Spanish side he decided to speak out and set the record straight.
“Neither Qatar nor New York. My wish is to finish my contract here,” he said.
However, Xavi’s refusal may lead the Americans to turn their attentions toward Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, who has been linked with a move to several MLS sides in the past.
