The 21-year-old stopper only joined the Amsterdam giants over the summer and has largely been out of manager Frank De Boer’s plans, having featured just six times this season as he struggles to break ahead in the pecking order above the likes of Niklas Moisander, Stefano de Boer and Joel Veltman.
The Netherlands under-21 international recently admitted that he would be open to an exit from the club with a loan move appealing to him.
“Of course I sometimes think about a loan period,” he said.
“For me, it’s currently just hard to get a place in the first team […] I prefer that I play a lot of games.”
United boss David Moyes is known to be in the market for some new faces in defence and is moving on to fresh targets after seeing Leighton Baines renew his deal with Everton.
