Coentrao has been consistently linked with an exit from the Bernabeu for months, and came achingly close to leaving the Spaniards over the summer.
The Portuguese international almost joined Manchester United on loan for the season, only for Real Madrid to pull the plug on the deal at the last minute after they failed to find a suitable replacement.
United have been mooted to make a return for the player during the January transfer window, however, they may now face a struggle as Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani is believed to have phoned Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti to ask about his availability.
Ancelotti reportedly played it cool, and was unsure as to whether he wanted to let the defender-cum-midfielder leave until the summer at the earliest when he will be able to work on bringing somebody in to replace him.
Milan are hopeful of being able to strike a deal, though, and will work fast to ensure he comes in before Friday’s deadline.
