Reports in the player’s native Portugal have suggested that new Baggies boss Pepe Mel is wasting no time in preparing bids to improve his newly inherited squad and has made a number of preliminary enquiries into the player, who can also play in midfield.
However, if Pel wants to bring the 23-year-old on board he will have to make do with landing him on loan, as it is not thought that a permanent deal can be pushed through before the end of the transfer window on Friday.
The two-cap Portuguese international arrived at Benfica in the summer of 2011 from Belenenses, but found his path to the first team blocked as was quickly loaned out to Leira for the rest of the campaign.
A short spell in Benfica’s B team then gave him the opportunity to show what he can do, but he is still playing a bit part role this term and has currently made just 12 appearances.
