Englishman has a contract at St Mary’s until 2018.
In-demand Southampton left-back Luke Shaw is set to turn down an an imminent approach from Premier League champions Manchester United in order to join Chelsea at the end of the season instead, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The highly rated young England Under-21 international has been at the centre of a transfer tug of war between the two Premier League giants of late, with the Red Devils being the first club to make their move after lodging a bid valued at a whopping £22m for the defender last week.
However, that offer was immediately rejected out of hand by the south coast club, who value their star man at nearer the £30m mark and are refusing to allow Shaw to leave St Mary’s for anything less than that sum.
United, though, still plan on returning to the Saints with a second improved offer for the 18-year-old before the January transfer window closes for business at midnight on Friday as manager David Moyes attempts to find a long-term replacement for current left-back Patrice Evra at Old Trafford.
But the Scot is set to be disappointed, with Shaw believed to be holding out for a dream summer move to Stamford Bridge instead.
