The United boss was recently spotted scouting the highly-rated Cagliari stopper and rumours had began circulating that a bid for the 27-year-old was imminent.
However, whatever plans he did have to bring him to Old Trafford have now hit a major roadblock after mega rich Zenit St Petersburg announced their own interest in him.
Moyes is desperate to add to his squad after last week’s surprise capture of Juan Mata and is keen on bringing in some more defensive cover to ease the likes of veteran pair Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic out of the club.
