The former manager was the one that brought the Serbian international to the Etihad 18 months ago and immediately installed him into the first team.
However, since Mancini’s exit at the end of last season, Nastasic has fallen out of favour at the club as his successor, Manuel Pellegrini, has sought to pair skipper Vincent Kompany next to veteran Martin Demichelis as his preferred central defensive partnership.
Mancini is thought to have financial backing in Istanbul, and is willing to put together a £14m deal to take him away from the Etihad stadium.
The Italian is hoping to persuade the former Premier League champions to do a deal before Friday’s transfer window slams shut in England, but City aren’t thought to want to enter into any sort of deal until the summer when they will be able to find a replacement that won’t be cup tied for the Champions League.
Juventus and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested.
